Snowden Hernández-Linares was born in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, at the Rodriguez Hospital, which was located across from Plaza San Jose, beautifully depicted in one of his watercolors. Snowden grew up in Puerto Rico, and he studied at the School of Architecture of the University of Puerto Rico from 1971 to 1976. During those years he also represented Puerto Rico in folkloric festivals that took place in several countries around the world, including Europe, Mexico and the United States as a member of the National Folkloric Ballet of Puerto Rico, Areyto. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1982, from The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, in Rapid City, South Dakota, specializing in Structural Design. He worked with the Architectural Firm of Lee Geiger and Associates and was a principal designer in the reconstruction of Historic Downtown Rapid City, South Dakota, during the early 1980’s. He moved to Orlando, Florida, where he worked for the Architectural firm of Schweizer and Associates from 1984 to 1985. There he worked as an Architect/Engineer under the tutelage of Architect Neil Schweizer, who was a personal student of the renowned Architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Snowden is a Certified General Contractor in the State of Florida. Throughout his professional career as an Architect, Engineer, and General Contractor he continued painting and developing his artistic talents. Snowden specializes in historic buildings and structures. He loves historic Spanish towns and the flavor that “adoquines” (masonry street pavers) add to the streetscape of those towns. Currently Snowden is a member of the Florida Watercolor Society, Inc.
