Snowden
Hernández-Linares was born in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, at the Rodriguez
Hospital, which was located across from Plaza San Jose, beautifully
depicted in one of his watercolors. Snowden grew up in Puerto Rico, and he
studied at the School of Architecture of the University of Puerto Rico
from 1971 to 1976. During those years he also represented Puerto Rico in
folkloric festivals that took place in several countries around the world,
including Europe, Mexico and the United States as a member of the National
Folkloric Ballet of Puerto Rico, Areyto. He obtained his Bachelor of
Science in Civil Engineering in 1982, from The South Dakota School of
Mines and Technology, in Rapid City, South Dakota, specializing in
Structural Design. He worked with the Architectural Firm of Lee Geiger and
Associates and was a principal designer in the reconstruction of Historic
Downtown Rapid City, South Dakota, during the early 1980’s. He moved to
Orlando, Florida, where he worked for the Architectural firm of Schweizer
and Associates from 1984 to 1985. There he worked as an Architect/Engineer
under the tutelage of Architect Neil Schweizer, who was a personal student
of the renowned Architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Snowden is a Certified
General Contractor in the State of Florida. Throughout his professional
career as an Architect, Engineer, and General Contractor he continued
painting and developing his artistic talents. Snowden specializes in
historic buildings and structures. He loves historic Spanish towns and the
flavor that “adoquines” (masonry street pavers) add to the streetscape of
those towns. Currently Snowden is a member of the Florida Watercolor
Society, Inc.
